Jem's Journal Entry

We just got back home from the trial, Atticus, Dill, Scout, and I. Dill and Scout are already sleepin' since it's already past 9:00. The trial didn't turn out as I had expected. The jury, they convicted him, Tom Robinson even though he didn't do a thing! I was so sure, so sure we had the trial won. Atticus went through every part of the examination  and presented every flaw in the Ewell's story, but somehow, I can't quite put my finger on it, but somehow, the trial still said Tom was guilty.

I know that everyone in that courtroom must have believed Tom was innocent after all that Atticus went through. Everyone knows Tom was innocent, that Mayella Ewell is just a liar, like her father...nothin' but Maycomb's trash. They even live out by the dump, and now because of their selfish lie Tom, an innocent young man with a family, is being sent of to the chair. It's just prejudice. Everyone on that jury was prejudiced, not only did they not like Tom,  but they also hate Atticus, which is probably the only reason Tom was said to be guilty.

Where's the justice in Maycomb anymore?!
